8 Block Agony
Today I started my training and began with the simplest of the three segments of a triathlon, the running. I'm not saying it is the easiest part, just that it is the simplest: got shoes, got road, gotta run. No need for a swimming pool or a bike, which by the way I do not have yet.
So, I started out this morning with no clear goal of how far to run or what route to take. All I knew was that I was going to run - I had to get these legs of mine moving and find out how good or bad a shape I am in. I started with a short brisk walk then quickly got myself into jogging. I jogged straight across three blocks at the end of which I was already panting like a dog in a barbeque party. I walked some then jogged some more. By the time I reached back home, just twenty minutes later, a mere eight-block rectangular course traversed, my feet and legs hurt and, being out of breath, I couldn't think clear anymore.
I later found out via Gmaps Pedometer that it was a 1.3 mile "run". I probably ran half of it, so as far as I'm concerned, that ain't bad. Far from triathlon material but hey, it's a start.
